Northern Youths Plan Massive Protest Tomorrow. Mobilises 150,000 Youths

From ABDULGAFAR ALABELEWE, Kaduna

Coalition of Northern youths groups under the aegis of Northern Youths Consensus Movement has concluded arrangements to mobilise 150,000 youths from the region to occupy Kaduna from tomorrow till next Monday in protest of security challenges in the region.

This was even as the youths told Northern delegates in the ongoing National Conference and National Assembly members of northern extraction to return home until security challenges bedevilling the North is totally addressed.

The coordinator of the movement, Ibrahim Garba Awala disclosed this to journalists in Kaduna yesterday, saying Northerners were tired of the senseless killings going on in the region, particularly in the North-East.

According to him, “killings are increasing in the North on a daily basis and the government seems not to be doing anything to stop it. As Northerners and Nigerians, we believe we must gather to fight this insecurity problem together, because the security of Nigeria is a collective responsibility.

“Nobody can stop us from exercising our right to ensure the security of this country. Since our leaders are not bothered about the security of the region, we the youths will take our future into our hands by ensuring that we occupy Kaduna until the right thing is done,” he said.

On the call for delegates at the ongoing National Conference and National Assembly members of northern extraction to return home, Awala said they had no business sitting in Abuja when their people were being killed in thousands on daily basis.

According to him, “it is better for the National Assembly members to return home in their own interest, because whoever refuses to return home will be considered to be among those benefiting from the insecurity.”

The youths, however, vowed that they were ready to sacrifice their lives for the success of the ‘Occupy Kaduna’ protest, as they threatened to dare any security agency that tried to stop them.

They assured that they had put measures in place to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the protest, scheduled to take place at Murtala Square.
